Centennial of the Fr Corby Memorial at Gettysburg

A note from the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Fr. William Corby Division:

“The Father William Corby statue on the Gettysburg Battlefield was dedicated on October 29, 1910 and this year marks the 100th anniversary of that dedication.

“The Ancient Order of the Hibernians Division, Father William Corby Division in Fairfax Station, Virginia, will be visiting the statue on October 29th to commemorate this anniversary.

“We are planning to bring a color guard and present the colors at the statue. In
addition, we hope to have a fiddler to play a song or two, a poem recitation and a speaker to talk about our namesake. We will arrive at 10:00 a.m. and finish our program at 11:00 a.m.”

  1. Nice to see this effort promoted here. You can learn more about the Irish in America’s Civil War, and about the heritage of the Irish worldwide, at http://www.thewildgeese.com, and at our FB page, at http://www.facebook.com/IrishHistory.

  2. Wild Geese, thanks for the note ~ I enjoy your site.

  3. i live in gettysburg. Can somebody please explain why for quite a few weeks now there has been a chain around father corby’s hand (not the one in the photo above, but instead a cheap looking ‘vending machine’ gold one)? Surely this is not supposed to be there? If so, why doesn’t one of the rangers remove it?
