  1. Four or five years ago, “The Sidewalks of New York” was dumped as the signature song for Belmont Stakes. This unfortunate step was made worse by the choice , as the replacement, of a song that begins with “Start spreading the news…” (Not clear if this is another fruit of Vatican II.)
